Its top speed is estimated to be Mach 1.8 at an altitude of 52,000 feet, slightly faster than the F-35. However, the J-31 is believed to carry less fuel, possibly around 14,000 to 16,000 pounds. This limitation in internal fuel capacity raises questions about the claimed combat range and whether it can truly match the F-35 in extended operations.
Stealth Capabilities
Modern fifth-generation fighter jets, like the American F-35, with their striking features, are often regarded as the benchmark. Advanced radar-absorbent materials (RAM), baked into the F-35’s structure, significantly reduce its radar cross-section (RCS) from all angles. The Chinese J-31 uses painted-on RAM, which is less effective than the F-35’s integrated materials. China’s EOTS works more like an infrared search and track system.

Production and Operational Status
