PN Sea Sultan Embraer lineage 1000
Leonardo and Paramount Aerospace Systems will modify the first Embraer Lineage 1000 for Pakistan Navy maritime patrol in 2026. In 2021, Pakistan signed a deal with Leonardo to convert three Embraer Lineage 1000 aircraft for long-range maritime patrol missions.
These aircraft will replace the ageing P-3C Orion fleet in Pakistan’s naval service. Under the Sea Sultan project, Paramount will handle pre-conversion maintenance and necessary repairs before modification begins.

The conversion will add electronic support and intelligence equipment. Engineers will install a modern camera system and advanced radar.
The upgrade will integrate satellite communication for secure, long-range operations. Special devices will work to confuse incoming enemy missiles. A launcher will carry torpedoes and other underwater weapons.
Admiral Naveed Ashraf, Chief of Naval Staff of the Pakistan Navy, stated that adding the Lineage 1000 maritime patrol aircraft to the Fleet Air Arm “is a great boost to our maritime patrol skills.”

“The aircraft is currently being modified in South Africa and should be delivered in 2026, with more deliveries in the future as part of a plan to update our naval aviation. With its advanced technology, the Sea Sultan will support our current platforms like the older P-3C Orion and ATR 72 aircraft, providing better range, endurance, anti-submarine warfare, and anti-surface capabilities,” he added.

Replacing P-3C Orion
The Pakistan Navy aims to eventually replace its P-3C Orion fleet with ten converted commercial aircraft. In September 2021, the Pakistan Navy introduced the first Lineage 1000 at a ceremony at Pakistan Naval Station Mehran in Karachi. The Pakistan Navy uses this unmodified aircraft for training purposes.
In addition to Paramount, other South African companies are also actively involved in the Sea Sultan project. Paramount has contracted Aerosud, a company that specialises in aircraft engineering and manufacturing, to provide two sets of interiors.

After 18 months of design, Aerosud started making interior parts for the special mission configuration in May. This includes essential parts like galleys, observer tables, class dividers, and equipment storage, expected to be completed by mid-2025.
Conclusion
“This contract highlights Aerosud’s technical skills and its strategic focus on teamwork and project execution. By partnering with Paramount Aerospace Systems, Aerosud is expanding its project portfolio, solidifying its role as a trusted supplier in the aerospace sector,” the company stated.
